![]() It was a tad clunky at times I don't disagree, and the doctor at the end was a great metaphor for her character (Look up some analysis there's reasons why she's there) but ultimately was just very cheesy to me too. So that's one of those things that just kinda splits the audience. I get that maybe that's not your thing, but so many other people absolutely love that we never see the monsters and are left to ponder. At least that's my interpretation.Īlso I love the Angels idea as a theory, but the monsters are just VASTLY more interesting as this unseen thing we don't ever understand. Both Olympia and Tom, both should have known not to, and yet they seemed unable to resist looking. It's pretty clear several times that there is a supernatural seduction happening to open their eyes. You're argument about Sandra not needing to run away is voided out by the fact that the creatures speak to them in voices, and people seem to be tempted to look even when they know they shouldn't. It’s like something I’d think is clever, but I’m effectively a moron and haven’t gone to school for writing. The doctor showing up seemed like some hack writing. It could have been one continuous flow, but some river stuff would probably need to be trimmed for pacing (the one stop they make to get blankets could have been skipped entirely, really would just need the rapids part) I also thought jumping back and forth between the river and the house was kind of clunky when the house storyline goes right up to the moment they enter the river. ![]() Then it would also make the mentally ill people seem like positive characters that are only trying to help, rather than stigmatizing the mentally ill the way the movie did. Sandra Bullock could have had to sacrifice herself to save the kids, only to discover that seeing the creatures is actually a good thing. I also feel like they could have done something more interesting with the ending, like the creatures are actually angels welcoming you to heaven, and the visions you see are so beautiful that you want to immediately die to get there. If all they have to do it be seen, then you shouldn’t have to run from them when you have a blindfold on. Then later in the movie Sandra Bullock runs away from them, even though there’s never any indication they can physically hurt you. Like the basics were explained - if you see them you want to die, if you’re crazy you just try to make other people see. The rules around the creatures weren’t really clear. I watched this the other day, and I agree it’s got some serious problems.
